DESCRIPTION
Using a case study approach, the speakers in this session will discuss the recognition and resolution of complex serological problems, including the resolution of unexpected reagent results. The speakers include representatives from a blood center immunohematology reference laboratory, a hospital transfusion service and a consultation service of a commercial reagent manufacturer.
SALLY FRANK LECTURE: AABB is proud to present the Sally Frank Lecture. A well known medical technologist and an AABB member, Frank was a clinical instructor for Louisana State University Medical Center and an assistant technical director at the Department of Hemotherapy at Charity Hospital. She conducted educational workshops on blood banking throughout the United States. After her death in 1982, a scholarship fund was started in her honor by her many friends and relatives. OBJECTIVES
- Recognize and identify antibodies produced by individuals who have mosaic antigens
- Discuss an unusual Rh antibody that apparently reacted with an epitope encoded by RHD exon 2
- Explain some reported unexpected reagent results
- Identify similar cases in your facility
