DESCRIPTION
This short topic will address blood bank support for organ transplantation. The speakers will present current information on the transfusion needs of organ tranplantation patients. The pros and cons of ABO-unmatched and mismatched transplants will be examined. In addition, the clinical status of microchimerism will be evaluated. OBJECTIVES
- Characterize transfusion needs in liver, heart, lung, kidney, pancreas and small intestine transplantation patients
- Discuss ABO-unmatched and ABO-incompatible organ transplantation
- Review the current information on cytomegalovirus safety, leukoreduction, blood irradiation and microchimerism
