Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA): A Management Tool for Reducing Risk
Program Code: 401-QE Tuesday, October 26, 2004
8:30 AM to 10:00 AM (ET)
SPEAKERS Jeanne S. Derby, MA, BA, Mayo Clinic - Rochester Lisa Walters, PhD, MBA, MT(ASCP)SBB, CQA(ASQ), SSGB, State University of New York at Fredonia
DESCRIPTION
Ever wonder what a failure mode is? Or an effects analysis? Or why it is sometimes called FMECA? This session will help to demystify the frequently misquoted engineering terms that help us to better understand our processes and to design quality and safety into new processes or improve existing ones. FMEA is a systematic method to identify ways that errors and breakdowns can occur and quantify the risk if they should breakdown. Several applications and examples of FMEA will be provided. OBJECTIVES
- Define several applications of FMEA
- Describe the methodology of FMEA
