DESCRIPTION
The speakers will discuss several case studies involving serious transfusion reactions where communication with the blood supplier and evaluation of the involved blood donor units is essential to preventing subsequent similar reactions in other patients. In each of these cases, the speakers will present a typical clinical presentation, discuss the elements of a complete reaction workup by the transfusion service and idenify the information that needs to be forwarded to the blood supplier in order to allow proper donor and co-coponent investigation and disposition. The relevant regulatory reporting requirements for fatalities and HIPAA regulations for sharing clinical information for reaction investigations will be reviewed.
