DESCRIPTION
Benchmarking for best practices in the blood banking industry continues to be a challenge. Best practices in transfusion service operations have been elusive due to a lack of standardized practices and definitions. This session will address the design, data collection and information obtained from a pilot benchmarking project evaluating product utilization for transfusion services. It will address usage, discard and outdating based on region, size and type of facility. Administrative best practices will be discussed from data collected. Format will facilitate input from participants concerning their experiences with the application of benchmarking parameters.
