DESCRIPTION
A transfusion service must ensure that it meets the expectations of a number of accrediting and regulatory agencies: AABB, CAP, JCAHO, CMS and FDA. Although these different agencies may focus more intently on a particular area, they share many common standards of compliance. By blending together the tools and checklists used by the agencies mentioned above to measure performance in transfusion service, the speakers designed (and now updated) a comprehensive assessment tool for use in internal auditing. Ongoing internal measurement using this comprehensive tool will ensure a thorough self-evaluation and will move the organization toward a constant state of inspection readiness. At the end of the session, the comprehensive assessment tool will be distributed to the session participants for use with their future internal audits.
