DESCRIPTION
There are important methodological issues to consider when performing clinical research. Some of these issues include topics such as confounding variables, co-interventions and contamination, internal and external validity, and if the study was designed as a superiority, noninferiority or equivalence study. Understanding these issues is also essential to critically appraise scientific literature. This session will include two lectures: one summarizing the published and ongoing studies related to platelet dose, and the other focused on new clinical data related to hemoglobin triggers in several different patient populations. Participants will not only receive state-of-the-art information about these two areas but also use the studies to illustrate the methodological concepts previously summarized.
