DESCRIPTION
Current standards pertaining to what constitutes a transfusible RBC may be out of date. There is tremendous variation with respect to viability and function of fresh and stored RBC as well as hemoglobin content in individual RBC. Such differences may have significant clinical implications. The arguments for a standard RBC unit will be explored in this session, along with the impact on transfusion practice and complications.
