DESCRIPTION
The shortage of the workforce in transfusion medicine and laboratory medicine reflects negatively on our profession. Critical elements in acquiring and maintaining sufficient personnel must be improved to ensure continued existence of the profession and to assure patient safety. These elements include recruitment techniques, retention packages, and career development for laboratory personnel, both in transfusion medicine and in clinical laboratories.
