DESCRIPTION
Using the hemostasis laboratory to guide Blood Bank product usage is essential to inventory control, documentation of efficacious therapy, and trouble-shooting the management of coagulopathy. This interactive conference will examine synergies of the Blood Bank and hemostasis laboratory for therapy of bleeding disorders, including congenital and acquired hemophilias, von Willebrand's disease, massive trauma protocols and iatrogenic causes. Effective and timely monitoring of the results of therapy with purified factors, plasma and recombinant products will be debated. This review will also examine the shortcomings and new potential testing for important hematologic disorders relevant to the Blood Bank, including heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, as well as monitoring for newer therapies such as fondaparinux.
