DESCRIPTION
Serologic testing in transfusion medicine involves the detection of primarily clumps and no clumps. The presence or absence of this principle reaction can cause much grief on the technologist/technician performing testing. This session will include the use of clinical case studies to discuss serologic problems encountered during routine testing of patient samples and the "what can be done" aspect to resolve. Cases presented will address ABO/Rh discrepancies, simple and complex antibody identification, hemolytic disease of the fetus/newborn, transfusion reactions and clinical decisions to provide the appropriate product to the patient.
