DESCRIPTION
Who doesn't want to be younger? But are "fresher" red cells better red cells? This session will review available data regarding the impact of the red cell storage period on recipient outcome and identify elements of these studies that do - and do not - help clarify the situation. The session will also consider the biochemical changes that occur during red cell storage with an eye toward identifying new approaches that might reduce the "storage lesion" and its clinical impact.
