DESCRIPTION
TRALI is the number one cause of death from transfusion. The AABB has issued recommendations as to how to decrease this risk to recipients. This session will investigate the clinical distinctions and work-up of TRALI vs TACO, and explore why TACO is increasingly being recognized. New data on the value of questioning female donors vs. the effectiveness of HLA/granulocyte donor testing will be presented. Studies on 24-hour plasma vs. FFP will be presented. Blood centers and hospital collectors will discuss their plans to comply with the AABB recommendations.
