DESCRIPTION
More and more tranfusion medicine specialists and physician medical directors of transfusion services find themselves being asked to direct tissue bank services. For the pathologist or transfusion specialist in either community or academic practice, regulatory requirements for these activities can seem staggering. This program will review regulatory requirements for tissue storage in the hospital setting. Two models for tissue bank services, the centralized and decentralized models, will also be presented. The program is intended to introduce service options available and key regulatory concepts to the person who has or will have responsibility for tissue bank services in the hospital setting.
This interactive program will provide a review of the regulatory requirements that accompany directorship of a tissue bank service in either community or academic practice. Participants will be given the opportunity to ask questions about regulatory requirements and about the strengths and weaknesses of the two models for hospital tissue management presented.
