DESCRIPTION
The role of the transfusion medicine physician extends beyond ensuring the safety and efficacy of blood products or the management of the blood inventory. From providing input into various patient issues to directing the care in the areas of apheresis, the transfusion service physician's role has evolved into that of a consultant. Examples of how transfusion medicine physicians can serve as hospital consultants and guidance on proper billing of physician services will be presented in this session.
