DESCRIPTION
What makes a supervisor development program effective? It begins with the creation of a supervisor competency model based on an organization's business needs and interviews with exemplary supervisors. Current supervisory skill levels are assessed and used to select the topics that are included in training. To ensure that classroom learning is transferred to the job, mid- and upper-level managers participate in training and fulfill skill development contracts with their supervisors-in-training, and performance appraisals built on the competency model drive accountability. This program is a case study of the evolution of one organization's supervisor development program, and how it continues to evolve to meet strategic business needs.
