DESCRIPTION
This audioconference focuses on thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) pathophysiology and treatment from a nurse's perspective. Research has characterized the von Willebrand factor protease associated with the pathogenesis of TTP as ADAMTS-13, which may prevent inappropriate microvascular platelet aggregation. Deficiency of ADAMTS-13 has been associated with TTP in some patients. An apheresis nurse will discuss the role of ADAMTS 13 in the pathophysiology of TTP and the treatment of this disease with therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), including a review of procedural parameters and conditions.
