Performance Management: Employee Development
Description
Developing employee skills is a significant component of performance management. By providing opportunities for development of key employee competencies, supervisors can better align employees to meet departmental and organizational goals. Additionally, companies benefit from committing resources to staff development when employees become more engaged in their work and more dedicated to the company's goals and mission. Is it better to identify employees' weaknesses and provide opportunities to help them grow in these areas, or is it better to identify employees' strengths and provide opportunities for them to develop these skills even further? How can an employer effectively support an employee's development? Is training always the best way to develop new skills? This program will provide answers to these questions.

  • Describe a process used to identify areas for employee development.
  • Discuss ways, in addition to training, that can be used to develop employee knowledge and skills.
  • Prepare for a discussion with an employee to discuss development plans and opportunities.
