Massive Transfusion Protocols Update and Fresh Blood Update
Description
The Donor Center Physician Program will look at four current topics that challenge donor centers. It will also provide opportunities for the pysicians to establish new programs or protocols that address the clinical situation and potentially expand the donor base. The program will be interactive with audience participation using hand-held devices to answer questions on each topic.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Describe the challenges in drawing high school age donors and what measures are being implemented to prevent donor reactions and injuries.
  • Describe what interventions are being considered to address TRALI and how they will impact the volunteer donor base.
  • Discuss new trauma transfusion protocols and how donor centers will provide this level of product support to hospitals.
  • Examine the controversy over fresh blood and determine if this product has merit and can be provided on a consistent basis.
