Description
The implementation and use of molecular screening methods would be predicted to have a significant impact on donor screening and identification of rare donor units. This session will explore screening approaches currently applied in the US, Canada, Brazil, Europe, and China. The program will highlight population-specific challenges and address communication, standardization of testing and a vision for the future.

  • Review the history, international relationships, and impact of globalization on rare donor programs.
  • Share screening approaches for rare donors and describe the impact of screening with molecular testing methods.
  • Understand the infectious disease testing challenges and generate dialogue, discussion, and vision for the future.
