Antibodies - Coming in from the Cold
Description
Audio conference will provide a brief overview of what a cold agglutinin is (allo and auto). It will look into ways that blood banks are currently resolving cold-reacting allo and auto antibody issues, in particular how blood banks can determine if any other clinically significant antibodies are present. Finally, it will look into the typical clinical issues associated with cold agglutinins, in particular when the patient is a cardiac one. The instructional method will be lectures.

  • Clinical problems associated with cold reactive proteins in cardiac surgery patients
  • Describe typical cold agglutinins found in blood banking (anti-I,anti-i,anti-P1)
  • Other cold reacting (<30șC)alloantibodies (anti-M, etc,)
  • Understand the impact cold agglutinins have on typical blood bank serology testing
