OBJECTIVES:
  • Describe the impact of red cell storage time on outcomes of transfused critically ill patients.
  • Discuss strategies used to provide safe blood for IqA deficient recipients.
  • Review areas of risk for transfusion transmitted error.
  • Recognize the impact of storage time and leukoreduction on the accumulation of neutral lipids in red cell products.
