OBJECTIVES:
  • Discuss the adverse impact of storage and irradiation on RBC flow properties, deformability and endothelial adherence.
  • Discuss the potential impact of transfusion, particularly RBC, on mortality and cytokine levels in patients with cardiac surgery, cardiovascular disease and sepsis.
  • Identify potential coagulation studies related to early trauma coagulopathy.
  • Discuss the use of frozen blood products for support in military operation.
