OBJECTIVES:
  • Discuss the impact of blood component ratios and their efficacy in trauma patients.
  • Review the potential use of animal models for plasma infusion therapy.
  • Describe the clinical consequences of plasma reduction and transfusion of D+ platelets.
  • Assess the potential benefit of RBC exchange in sickle cell with regard to platelet activation.
  • Explain the potential adverse role of iron in immunity and its implication for chronic hemolytic states and RBC transfusion therapy.
