The session will involve lectures by international experts, who will provide the latest information about three emerging infections that threaten the safety of the blood supply.

  • Describe the current status of testing blood donors for Babesia microti infection.
  • Determine the risk of transfusion-transmitted dengue virus infection and approaches to ameliorate the risk.
  • Discuss Q fever, its routes of transmission, and its potential threat to blood safety in selected countries.
