The Immunoglobulin Molecule - From Gene to Protein
Description
This session will focus on the immunoglobulin proteins, their structure, glycosylation, and biophysical function. New methods have emerged to allow scientists to study antibodies to see how their function is regulated, and why they cause destruction of red cells and other tissues. Understanding why antibodies are formed, what moderates their function, and the termination of their role as it relates to blood transfusion and tissue transplantation will be discussed.

  • Describe the downstream effect of immunoglobulin binding to T-cell Fc receptors.
  • Discuss about the genetics that direct antibody production and molecular structure.
  • Review how antibody glycosylation regulates function.
