Plasma Proteomics and Transfusion Medicine
Description
This session will explore the new developments of the field of proteomics and how they have been used to increase our understanding of blood products. Presentations will cover the new information arising from studies of plasma proteins, as well as the proteomic information being used to unravel the basis of the red blood cell and platelet storage lesions.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Determine how proteomic approaches have been used to learn more about plasma proteins.
  • Explain basic proteomic approaches to blood product analysis.
  • Explain the new information gained about the platelet storage lesion from proteomic approaches to studies of standard platelet products.
  • Review the protein changes occurring in red blood cell concentrates and the effect of storage on key red cell proteins.
