Can This Product Be Saved? Examples of Good Products Gone Bad
Description
Blood facilities struggle with determining under what circumstances and conditions various blood components can be acceptable for distribution when deviations from routine processes occur. Considering today's environment, no blood center wants to needlessly dispose of blood products or distribute unacceptable products for transfusion. This workshop will present and examine cases of nonconforming blood products and the rationale used to evaluate acceptability and methods used to put them back on track.

  • Provide an overview of donor safety issues and how these issues relate to product acceptability.
  • Provide examples of when blood products cannot be reworked or salvaged for eventual distribution.
  • Review case studies demonstrating how to determine product suitability after a process deviation.
