Description
In the course of a day, Transfusion Services may receive many requests for STAT or urgent testing or release of product. Not all of these requests have the same timeliness of need. Staff must respond appropriately and quality markers must be established to safely and properly meet patient care needs in critical situations. This workshop will present information to help distinguish different levels of urgency and, therefore, different procedures for testing. Guidance will be given to assist staff with decision making regarding testing to perform, product to release, documentation to be obtained. These situations will be further explored with case studies illustrating different STAT and ASAP situations.

  • Develop a draft policy describing STAT and ASAP testing parameters.
  • Include applicable regulations in this policy.
  • List at least three clinical situations in which STAT and/or ASAP testing may be applicable.
