2008-2009 Post Donation Information and Transfused Blood Products: Review of a Single Blood Center Experience

Description
What is happening, what does it matter, and what can we do about it? Speakers will explore the causes of post donation information (PGI), the risk of transfusing blood in which deferring information has not been captured, and creative ideas to reduce the PDI occurrence.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Identify possible causes why deferring information is not captured during medical screening or the telerecruitment process.
  • Illustrate the numbers of transfused blood products from the most identified PDI categories such as geographical vCJD, malaria, medical condition/other, high risk behavior and tattoo.
  • Provide an evaluation of data collected to capture the extent of staff and donor's knowledge regarding the impact of the blood products to the recipients.
  • Provide creative educational training ideas/tools to help reduce PDI occurrences.
