Description

OBJECTIVES:
  • Identify donor demographic factors associated with deferral for a low screening hemoglobin level.
  • Discuss how fingerstick hemoglobin data in first time blood donors can be used to assess the prevalence of anemia in different racial and gender groups in the U.S.
  • Assess the role of establishing an upper acceptable limit for donor fingerstick hemoglobin levels in identifying person who would benefit from medical referral.
  • Describe how changes in the pattern of heart rate variability can be used as a marker of mild hemorrhage.
