Description

OBJECTIVES:
  • Appraise new findings in HIV blood donor testing, including the distribution of HIV viral loads in clade B vs. clade C infections, the residual risk of HIV transmission in Brazil, and false positive rates by Abbott’s HIV O plus assay.
  • Judge the feasibility of maintaining a “2 hit” donor management policy using the PRISM Anti-HTLV-I/II screening assay.
  • Discuss the findings of absence of detectable xenotropic Murine Leukemia Virus (XMRV) in samples from HIV-1 infected individuals in Africa and performance of a new serological test for XMRV in the context of potential transmissibility of this virus by transfusion.
