Blood Group Variants: Molecular Basis of Blood Group Expression
Description
Molecular immunohematology is not new and has recently gained momentum since AABB standards have been established. This event will consist of rotating speed date-like sessions led by immunohematology "chaperones." The session will consist of 6 or more tables of 8 participants organized into the following themes: clinical applications of molecular immunohematology; "dry" genotype-matched blood; donor genotype databases; blood group variants and the molecular basis of blood group expression; establishing a molecular immunohematology lab; transfusion support of alloimmunized patients. Participants will move on to another theme at the end of each speed date. At the conclusion, the chaperons will conduct a summary of the discussions with participant interaction. Plan to attend this first ever but popular approach to meet new colleagues, share experiences and swap new ideas.
