A Systematic Approach to Problem Solving
Description
Using several LEAN and Six Sigma tools and case studies, the speakers will take the audience through a systematic approach to problem solving. Presentations will elaborate on the elements and tools used in incident investigation or process improvement into phases. The first phase will focus on identifying and defining the problem. The next phase will provide instruction and tools for conducting a thorough investigation to determine the root cause and develop a concise problem statement. The session will then examine how to address the problem with concrete action or project plan. The final phase to the systematic approach-criticality reviewing the control phase, defining metrics for continued monitoring and documenting evidence that actions taken were effective-will be reviewd in the session.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Determine how to address the problem, finding a resolution through the development of concrete action plans or a larger scale project plan.
  • Identify human factors involved in incidents and assign fair accountability.
  • Recognize the importance of defining metrics for continued monitoring and evaluate the effectiveness of the improvements or solutions implemented.
  • Use quality and LEAN tools to conduct a thorough investigation, identify root cause of a problem or error and write a causative statement.
