Description
This session will consist of three 20-minute presentations followed by a Q & A session with a panel of experts. A brief history of AABB's involvement in accreditation of perioperative blood recovery programs will be provided, including a review of the standards and their unique role in the perioperative blood recovery service. The benefits of a peer survey in improving the process will be discussed. Also included will be an outline of the Quality System Essentials using realistic examples of how each applies to the perioperative setting. Suggestions will be presented of what a program must have in place (eg, organizational charts; written policies, processes, and procedures; internal audits; evidence of validation) to achieve accreditation; and where to look for help in accreditation process. The speakers will also review the steps for applying for accreditation.
