Cord Blood remote Collection: Regulatory Challenges and Soluions
Karen Foster, MSC, MBA, Vice President, Laboratory Operations, Perkin Elmer Corporation
Description
A common model for the collection of unrelated cord blood is from hospitals where staff are not under the direct control of the cord blood bank. Challenges related to the training of the staff and the associated documentation are presented along with potential solutions. The shipment of the collected cord blood and the validation of the long distance shipments will be discussed.

  • Define the regulatory requirements for cord blood collection training and the associated documentation.
  • Describe approaches for validation of the transport container used to ship the collection kit and cord blood collections from and to remote sites and/or non-fixed sites.
  • Provide methods and tools that can be directly applied to training of sites where staff are not employed by the cord blood bank.
