Description
The workshop will introduce the requirements needed to obtain an SBB certification. Trends for the last ten years will show the number of certified medical technologists and specialists in blood bank and success rates of those attending a SBB program vs. attempting certification via other routes. SBB leaders with positions in various fields will share their job experiences and describe how SBB certification helped prepare them for their careers. The group will explore networking opportunities for those seeking a career change.


LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Identify networking opportunities for new and "seasoned" SBBs who are ready for a challenge or a new career path.
  • List various career paths open to specialists in blood bank technology and engage with leaders from these areas of expertise.
  • Outline the journey of SBB certification including requirements, advantages of certification and experiences.
  • Review compiled statistics regarding SBB ASCP certification examinations and various success rates between SBB program graduates and non-graduates.
