Interoperability - SIG Path to Success
Description
This session will describe the process used to develop standards for interoperability within the blood banking industry using the HL7 standards widely throughout health-care. Using a case study, this session will describe how a blood center used HL7 standards to receive orders from hospital customers electronically and send status messages back to the hospital system. The speakers and attendees explore the efficiencies gained and the cost savings discovered by implementing electronic exchange of information using standards developed for the health-care industry.

  • Discover the various options and the process for implementing the successful exchange of information between computer systems.
  • Identify the obstacles to successful interoperability between external systems.
  • Recognize the value of standards for exchanging information between disparate computer systems.
