In late October, 2010, an international consensus development conference on risk-based decision making for blood safety was held in Toronto, under the sponsorship of 9 organizations including AABB. This session will report on the rationale for addressing this topic, the value of developing a decision making framework that can be used in any jurisdiction, and the detailed consensus statement produced by the consensus panel.

  • Discuss the consensus conference recommendation and its application to the AABB membership.
  • Report on the outcome of a recent international consensus conference on risk-based decision making for blood safety.
  • Review the elements of risk management frameworks that can be applied to blood safety.
