The Future is Now - Using Biometrics & Device Integration to Increase Benefits of the Electronic Donor Record
Description
This presentation begins with an overview of how one organization moved from a first-stage electronic donor record to a more advanced system that includes biometrics for donor and staff identification and integration with third-party medical devices, and the overall impact these projects had on key performance indicators such as duplicate donors and documentation errors. Topics covered include why biometrics and integration with medical devices were selected as strategic projects, how these projects were set up and positioned for success, and the key technology, process and organization decisions that were made. The speakers will highlight how this organization prepared for the culture shift and trained and retooled its workforce to embrace these new technologies and workflow. Donor and employee perceptions of and response to these technological and process changes and the strategies adopted to encourage employee and donor acceptance will also be discussed.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Describe how to evolve from a first-stage electronic record to a more advanced system with biometric and device integration.
  • Identify key decisions and criteria for implementing biometrics and device integration.
  • List key performance indicators (such as reduction of duplicate donors) and success factors.
  • Recognize changes needed in the quality management system, QA oversight and culture changes.
