Description
How does one evolve to become the CEO of a blood center? Some start in the blood center and work their way up the administration ladder. Others are recruited to the organization as the CEO. Blood Centers are unique work settings and comprise less than 80 organizations in North America. This lecture will discuss what type of individuals lead blood centers, based on a survey of 68 current CEOs. If we look at a blood center as an aircraft, each organization has a leader who sits in the pilot's seat. How he or she got there is as diverse as the group of current CEOs, but there are also a number of similarities. Invariably, along with every successful CEO is another key leader who shares the cockpit. This lecture will discuss these dynamics as a means towards leadership success.

  • Develop a better understanding of how CEOs arrived at their position of leadership.
  • Review the diversity in experience and career paths of top leadership in blood centers in North America.
  • Review the leadership dynamics and importance of key partnerships in terms of who sits in the cockpit.
