LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Discuss the effects of long-term storage on patient outcomes in premature infants receiving blood that has been stored for up to 42 days.
  • Evaluate the safety with respect to bacterial contamination risk of the single, double or triple platelet apheresis products produced in the US.
  • Explain the current outcomes of testing, including seroprevalence, of HTLV I/II in a large sample of American blood donors.
  • Teach the concept that individual donor profiling through metabolomics analysis may identify donors whose donations demonstrate poor storage characteristics and survival following transfusion.
