Utility of an Anesthesia Information Management System to Analyze and Improve Blood Utilization
Description
With improvements in information technology in hospitals and the potential to connect blood bank computer systems with other hospital and patient data, there are opportunities to leverage these information technology (IT) improvements towards better transfusion practices and safer transfusion purposes. This session's speakers will describe their improvements with the use of information gathered outside of the blood bank through IT, to enhance the level of review or services that they provide.

  • Discuss how anesthesia information systems can be used to assess blood utilization.
  • Discuss how patient blood management data should be used to interface effectively with providers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve monitoring of transfusions for suspected transfusion reactions.
