Description
Organizing a medical care delivery system that ensures the highest level of service for assessing patient status and that fosters judicious application of blood therapy is fundamental for success of a PBM program. This session will cover building an effective PBM program, applying key medical management options to reduce blood transfusion requirements and engaging the patient through effective informed consent processes to ensure that the benefits and risks of transfusion therapy are understood as best as possible.

  • Discuss the elements for building a successful patient blood management (PBM) program.
  • Discuss the principles and effective means for obtaining informed consent for transfusion.
  • Review medical and surgical interventions to optimize support patients desiring not to receive transfusion therapy.
