Description
This event provides an opportunity for a panel representing various public and private perspectives to discuss the current landscape in biovigilance. Included will be representatives from the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network - Hemovigilance Module, AABB's Biovigilance Working Group who developed the definitions and content of the Hemovigilance Module, AABB's Donor Hemovigilance Working Group, and AABB's Patient and Donor Safety Center. Questions for the discussion are submitted before the scheduled session via the AABB website, at kiosks in the Cyber Connection located in the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center and during the session.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Describe services provided by AABB's Patient and Donor Safety Center and the confidentiality provisions the center affords.
  • Describe the rationale behind the development of the hemovigilance forms and definitions used in the Hemovigilance Module.
  • Explain and describe the CDC's Hemovigilance protocol and how to use the Hemovigilance Module of the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
  • Review other proposed or existing biovigilance systems.
