Description
Community colleges are gateways to higher education for many immigrant students, including undocumented students. Although controversy continues around the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, its passage would dramatically increase the numbers of undocumented youth enrolled in community colleges. But are we ready? This presentation will share highlights from Migration Policy Institute’s latest research on the potentially eligible DREAM Act beneficiaries and the Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education’s Call to Action, a policy guide outlining the community college implications of the DREAM Act, and the strategies community colleges can adopt to better serve undocumented students.
