In 2004 John O'Leary was asked by a niece to speak at her 4th grade Disability Awareness Day. John never believed he had any disabilities, had never shared his story with an audience, but agreed to honor her request. The experience was so positive for both the students and John that he began actively seeking speaking opportunities. The growth since has been remarkable. John shared his powerful story 5 times in 2004, 17 times in 2005 and over 80 times in 2006, becoming a sought after speaker in the health care, sales, keynote and numerous other industries, both nationally and internationally. John is known for his ability to connect with, challenge and impact the audience. Over the past 12 months, John averages a speaker ranking of 4.6 out of 5 and became the highest ranking speaker for a National AMTDA Conference when the audience ranked him 4.9 out of 5. These ratings correspond to a scale where a 3 is good, a 4 great, and a 5 exceptional. The key to Johns connection with groups is the empathy with which he prepares for the conference, connects with his audience and corresponds with them afterwards. This empathy grows from his childhood injuries, his work as a hospital chaplain, his responsibilities as a husband and father, and his commitment to a lasting, transformational impact for his audiences with every presentation. To ensure this result, John sends a three page questionnaire to his contacts before a presentation to get a better feeling for the conference, asks for permission to have email contact with 10% of the group before, is completely focused on the group (their challenges, hopes, fears, etc) during the presentation, and follows up with each member in writing afterwards. John never dreamed of becoming a professional speaker, but the impact he sees in the audience during his presentation (and afterwards) motivates him to continue sharing this transformative message.
