Dr. Ashton is a Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She has taught in various nursing programs for over 25 years and has served as a Legal Nurse Consultant for more than 10 years. A frequently sought speaker, she has given presentations across the US and in 8 foreign countries. Her expertise is in cardiovascular nursing and she has conducted numerous funded research studies in area of women and heart disease. Currently she serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Legal Nurse Consulting.Dr. Ashton obtained her BSN from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her MS from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, and her PhD from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

Mindy is the President and Owner of Mindy Cohen & Associates, an independent LNC firm in Pennsylvania, since 1995. She serves as an expert witness in camp nurse and pain and suffering cases. Mindy’s clinical nursing background includes pediatrics, rehabilitation, home care and administration. Mindy has her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from University of Pennsylvania and has achieved her LNCC. She has been active in AALNC and is our incoming President.

Description
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss two strategies to use when giving deposition testimony to avoid inadvertent disclosure.
2. Identify key phrases or behaviors used by opposing counsel to intimidate witnesses.
Using an interactive format with actual videotaped deposition testimony, the speakers will engage the audience in discovering some useful ways to deliver testimony and avoid common pitfalls. In addition to viewing the video clip, participants will be guided through a critique of the testimony and will be challenged to develop alternate strategies for handling various types of opposition. Geared to the advanced practitioner, this session will offer useful tips for LNCs at all levels.
