Taya Bever is a legal nurse consultant who has been working with attorneys in the defense of long term care facilities, home health agencies and assisted living facilities. Before working as a legal nurse consultant, Ms. Bever worked as a registered nurse in a variety of settings, including hospitals, home health, case management, community health and long term care facilities. Her experience in long term care gives her unique background and skill to identify issues in nursing home chart, develop defense themes, and work with nurses and CNAs who are involved in nursing home litigation as witneses. Ms. Bever obtained her BSN in 1994 from the University of Arizona.

Jill Goldsmith's trial practice is concentrated in complex civil litigation throughout the Southwest, with an emphasis on the defense of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health care, and product manufacturers. She has represented several nursing homes in matters involving claims of professional negligence and elder abuse claims. She has served on the Institutional Review Board for Phoenix Children's Hospital, Paradise Valley Hospital Review Board, and the Institutional Review Board of the Phoenix Regional Medical Center Hospital. Jill has lectured and authored on a variety of topics and issues of concern for her clients including presenting to Arizona Health Care Association and the AALNC 2007 conference.

"Holley Kvetko is a registered nurse and a legal nurse consultant for Bowman and Brooke in Phoenix. She works with attorneys in the defense of long-term care facilities, home healthcare agencies, and assisted living facilities. Prior to working as a legal nurse consultant, Ms. Kvetko worked as a registered nurse in various medical settings such as hospitals, medical centers and long-term care facilities. Ms. Kvetko has an extensive background in wound care, which is frequently the central issue in long term care and assisted living facility cases. Ms. Kvetko works with attorneys in identifying and developing themes regarding the medical aspect of the nursing home cases. Ms. Kvetko obtained her Bachelor’s of Science and Nursing degree from Arizona State University.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the legal aspects of long term care cases.
2. Identify the process, tools and documents the legal nurse consultant utilizes to investigate, evaluate and prepare long term care cases.
As long term care cases continue to gain in popularity in the legal arena the legal nurse consultant is increasingly more valuable in investigating, evaluating and preparing cases for trial. A current in-house legal nurse consultant team and an experienced long term care trial attorney will present current trends in the nursing home and assisted living industry and the process of how they prepare and defend these long term care cases.
