Trish focuses her practice on assisting hospitals and physician clients with regulatory and operational matters, contract review and negotiation, fraud and abuse and other regulatory matters. Trish has provided counsel regarding physician recruitment, STARK and anti-kickback matters, medical staff bylaws, physician credentialing, peer review, Joint Commission compliance, EMTALA issues and medical malpractice defense. Trish was a registered nurse for over twenty years prior to becoming an attorney. Trish is a member of the Health care section of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, and a board member of the Tampa Bay Chapter of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys. Trish received a BA in health care management. with distinction from Eckerd College in 2001 and her J.D., cum laude, from Stetson University in 2005.

M. Elizabeth Lanier practiced nursing for 17 years before graduating from Emory University School of Law in 1997. During her nursing career, she worked in a variety of clinical and administrative settings. As an attorney, she practices commercial, construction, personal injury, and health care litigation. She also represents professionals in licensure actions. She has lectured extensively on medical-legal issues, including documentation, professional malpractice insurance, medical ethics and end-of-life issues. Ms. Lanier is the President of Lanier Law, P.A. in Tampa, Florida and is a member of Helms & Greene, LLC, a multi-state law firm based in Atlanta.

Description
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the differences between preparing for and testifying at depositions and trials as a fact witness, defendant and expert.
2. Identify the special considerations and risks applicable to licensed individuals who testify.
Part 2 of 2: Members of the Tampa Chapter of the American Association of Nurse Attorneys will provide a panel session on preparing for and testifying at depositions and trials as a fact witness, defendant or expert. The session will include mock testimony of a nurse at deposition and trial. Also, the panelists will discuss the special concerns applicable to licensed individuals such as nurses and the risk of licensure complaints and criminal charges associated with adverse incidents, alleged malpractice and testimony.
